Perform a health assessment on an individual who identifies as transgender and recognize the importance of promoting safe communication.ShareStart

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand personal assumptions and biases about gender diverse individuals to provide safe, comprehensive person-centred care to transgender individuals.
  2. Apply principles of cultural humility when establishing a therapeutic relationship with a transgender client in a community health clinic.
  3. Communicate effectively and respectfully with the transgender client during a health care encounter.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate assessment techniques when caring for the transgender client.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
