You will be attending to a patient who has just been extricated out of an apartment fire. You will be responsible for assessing, treating and transporting this patient to hospital.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this simulation, you will be able to:

Utilize assessment findings to rationalize treatment and the importance of transport to hospital for definitive care

Demonstrate patience, understanding while using an effective communication strategy in an attempt to persuade the patient to seek additional care

Recognize personal unconscious bias when developing a communication strategy

Demonstrate knowledge of alternative resources that are available to paramedics to assist with patients refusing care and/or transport

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
