This simulation will allow learners to process a variety of Microbiology specimens by choosing correct media, incubation conditions and direct smear options. A Standard operating procedure document will be used for the simulation.

Learning Objectives:

Apply a Microbiology Standard operating procedure document to correctly process a variety of Microbiology specimens.

Evaluate Microbiology specimen priorities.

Choose applicable Microbiology media for a variety of specimens.

Apply suitable incubation conditions for Microbiology specimens.

Prepare body fluids and other Microbiology specimens for microscopic evaluation using the Gram stain method.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
