Nicole Harper (32 years old) has brought their five-year-old, Summer, to for a pre-op assessment at the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic at the Children’s Hospital

Learning Objectives:

  1. Conduct assessments appropriate for care of a pediatric patient in a developmentally appropriate, organized, and systematic manner.
  2. Interact with the pediatric client in a developmentally appropriate manner during assessment and interventions to provide a positive healthcare experience.
  3. Communicate openly with the family during a healthcare interaction enabling the family to support treatment and ensuring family-centered care.
  4. Identify priority nursing actions based on assessment and clinical data.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
