This simulation will guide learners through the steps of performing Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Time of Flight (MALDI TOF) mass spec.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Apply the principles of MALDI TOF instrumentation to the detection of microorganisms.
  2. Perform analyses to identify clinically significant microorganisms in the laboratory.
  3. Assess results, identify sources of interference and initiate corrective action.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
