During an abdominal ultrasound, the patient is reacting poorly to the student‘s questions and is not being very cooperative.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate effective communication with an uncooperative patient.
  2. Demonstrate conflict de-escalation strategies.
  3. Identify potential underlying causes for a patient’s agitation.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
