The goal of this simulation is to enhance learners’ awareness about management of Opioid addictions. This simulation will explore critical and focused assessment for a client with substance abuse (COWs). It will also demonstrate prioritized care utilizing an interprofessional approach for a client with an opioid addiction.

Learning Objectives:

Perform focussed assessment for a client with substance addiction.

Understand and acknowledge your own cultural Biases towards the clients with substance addiction.

Identify and communicates concerns for client well being to an appropriate healthcare team members (Interprofessional team)

Perform priority nursing interventions for a client using opioids.

Collaborate with an interprofessional team for the management of chronic addictions for a client in a hospital and community setting.

Initiate safe discharge planning for this client from the hospital based on ongoing reassessment.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
