The patient is a 64 y/o male has had a transverse partial colectomy for colon cancer, and is two hours post-surgery.

Learning Objectives:

Distinguish between normal and abnormal post-operative findings of a client who just had a bowel resection.

Prioritize findings and initiate appropriate interventions.

Communicate assessment findings using SBAR to another health care provider.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
