This simulation is intended to be completed individually to enhance the learner’s knowledge and application of embedding theory. As a Laboratory Technologist on this simulated embedding bench, you will be required to perform maintenance on the embedding station and troubleshoot previously embedded blocks that did not meet quality standards.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize the correct orientation of different tissues and correlate this with instructions from grossing staff.

Apply methods to prevent tissue cross-contamination at embedding.

Recognize problems that are encountered at embedding and apply theory to troubleshoot them.

Describe the maintenance required for embedding stations.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
