This virtual gaming simulation (VGS) is a serious game designed for health care students and professionals. The VGS provides an opportunity for knowledge and skills application, critical thinking and problem-solving in assessing an older adult experiencing dementia. Game players are invited to make decisions in a realistic situation and encouraged to try different approaches.

Learning Objectives:

Apply knowledge to complete a focused functional assessment of an older adult.

Use principles of family-centered care with a client and their family member.

Engage effective communication strategies in the assessment of an older client and their family member.

Prioritize the plan of care for an older adult based on the findings of a functional assessment

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
