You will proceed through a session with a preceptor in the Toxicology Department. You are joining your preceptor for the first day in the department. Today you will be assisting in the operation of mass spectrometry. They will be asking you questions. They will discuss different components and principles of mass spectrometry and their applications. You will also review calibrations, controls and patient results from a drug testing run. The goal will be to answer as many of the Preceptor’s questions correctly as possible.

Learning Objectives:

Respond to Preceptor questions about the analytical principles and functions of a mass spectrophotometer (CSMLS Competency 3.08)

Practice interpretation of results obtained from a mass spectrophotometer. (CSMLS Competency 4.02, 5.03)

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
