Complete a series of routine phlebotomy collections according to established protocols while maintaining appropriate infection control.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this simulation, participants will:

  1. Select appropriate equipment for various phlebotomy collections.
  2. Apply infection control procedures when performing phlebotomy on inpatients.
  3. Implement established procedures to obtain quality blood samples from inpatients.
  4. Implement established procedures to identify patients prior to blood collection.
  5. Adhere to professional standards when collecting blood samples from inpatients.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
