You will proceed through the workflow of operating a large complex chemistry analyzer as a Medical Laboratory Technologist working independently. There are other technologists working that may interact with you based on the choices that you make. Your shift will include reviewing QC results, specimen integrity, and patient results, while initiating correct follow-up as required. Based on decisions you make there will be different paths. The goal will be to complete all levels without creating a critical mistake. Critical mistakes are defined as ones that lead to the release of incorrect or invalid results.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluate QC and initiate appropriate corrective action were needed.
Evaluate specimen suitability prior to running the sample using reference material provided.
Evaluate results and initiate appropriate corrective action were needed.
Determine proper workflow of operation.
Simulation Modality:
Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patientEvalution/Validation:
This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
