The patient is 65 years old and has been admitted to hospital after having a fall at home. You will hear a handover report from the night nurse and then proceed to begin your shift caring for the patient.

Learning Objectives:

identify environmental challenges to effective communication;

utilize strategies to effectively communicate with the geriatric population experiencing a different sense of hearing; and,

identify adaptive communication strategies to address age-related hearing changes when communicating with the geriatric population.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
