Rolando Perigrino is a 65-year-old male with a recent diagnosis of bladder cancer. He presents with reports of blood tinged urine.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the postoperative assessments of surgical patient with an epidural infusion for postoperative pain management.
  2. Demonstrate appropriate nursing and collaborative interventions to manage post-operative pain.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate nursing and collaborative interventions to manage complications of a patient with an epidural infusion for post operative pain and symptom management.
  4. Communicate with members of the interdisciplinary team using a communication tool to ensure timely reporting and/updating of a postoperative patient with pain and potential complications from an epidural pain management intervention.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
