The learner will be taking on the role of a transfusion medicine technologist on the Antibody bench. They will guide all decision making and perform all procedures that follow a positive DAT.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this scenario, participants will be able to:

Discuss the purpose and indications for performing elutions

Identify the steps involved in an acid elution procedure

Describe possible interferences that can occur when performing elutions

Apply patient history to current testing results, explain findings, and suggest follow up testing

Describe possible effects of transfusing unmatched blood and how they can be serologically confirmed

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
