The learner will be taking on the role of a transfusion medicine technologist on the Antibody bench. They will guide all decision making and perform all procedures that follow a positive DAT.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this scenario, participants will be able to:
Discuss the purpose and indications for performing elutions
Identify the steps involved in an acid elution procedure
Describe possible interferences that can occur when performing elutions
Apply patient history to current testing results, explain findings, and suggest follow up testing
Describe possible effects of transfusing unmatched blood and how they can be serologically confirmed
Simulation Modality:
Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patientEvalution/Validation:
This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
