In this interactive simulation, you will be conducting a mental health interview with a patient in acute depression with suicidal ideations who has been admitted voluntarily to the acute psychiatric unit.

Learning Objectives:

Apply therapeutic communication skills using a patient-centered, inclusive and trauma-informed approach.

Demonstrate interview techniques with a patient experiencing acute depression.

Perform a mental health interview that will include components of a mental status exam and suicide risk assessment.

Identify patient goals, values and beliefs, support systems and strengths.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
