This simulation has been designed to focus on opportunities for learning. During the game, you will take on the role of Karley, a newly graduated sonographer. Embedded in your interaction with an obstetrical patient, will be a selection of 3 potential responses or decision points. How you respond will determine how your interaction unfolds. You will receive immediate feedback at varying decision points identifying if your choice was good, okay, or poor. At the end of the game, you will receive feedback from the patient’s perspective. You will hear them talk about their experience during a phone call with their friend.
Learning Objectives:
- Examine how unconscious and personal bias impact interactions within healthcare
- Apply the principles of trauma informed care
- Choose responses congruent with active listening strategies based on the patient/client’s non-verbal behaviours
- Support patient’s psychological, physical and emotional safety
Simulation Modality:
Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patientEvalution/Validation:
This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
