During this simulation, you will take on the role of the Respiratory Therapist who has to perform terminal extubation. Terminal extubation can be accomplished through various approach: uniprofessional or interprofessional. This scenario focuses on demonstrating how this procedure can be done using an interprofessional approach. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Differentiate between an inter-professional approach to terminal extubation and a uni-professional approach.

  2. Prepare for and perform terminal extubation on a mechanically ventilated patient.

  3. Identify emotional challenges for the health care professional that are associated with terminal extubation

  4. Identify appropriate coping mechanism while having to withdraw treatment.
