The scenario is simulated in the context of a long-term care setting – Shady Oaks. You are the Registered Nurse who is leading the team. You are required to make decisions based on residents’ current medical conditions.
Learning Objectives:
Goal: To help students demonstrate developing competence in fulfilling the registered nurses’ responsibilities in caring for individuals living in a long-term care home.
When providing care to residents and families in long-term care, learners should demonstrate clinical judgement and leadership by:
-
Effectively recognizing and analyzing cues when prioritizing care for multiple residents;
-
Generating solutions and taking action when resolving or responding to resident needs – this may include advocating for the resident, and mentoring other health care professionals;
-
Evaluating effectiveness of communication with the team, including the resident’s family member; and,
-
Effectively assigning team roles and recognizing interdisciplinary opportunities.
Simulation Modality:
Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patientEvalution/Validation:
This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
