Eight nursing students packed themselves into a sparsely appointed recreational vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the shadow of Avera St. Mary’s Hospital. They were a collection of traditional and nontraditional students from all over central South Dakota. And each one of them was preparing for a chance to work hands-on with a patient recovering from a severe spinal injury.
