Job Description

This is a Temporary contract assignment for up to Twelve (12) Months

The Healthcare Educator, Simulation and Research is a key member of the SSC Simulation Centre team, responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality simulation-based education for learners across the healthcare continuum. Both SSC and SimSinai will benefit from the educator work in supporting simulation sta- in training and educational advancement opportunities. This role integrates simulation pedagogy with educational scholarship, leading and supporting research initiatives that advance simulation science and clinical education practices. The successful candidate will also lead and collaborate on research initiatives that align with the SSC’s and SimSinai’s missions to improve patient outcomes through excellence in surgical and medical education and scholarship.

In this role you will:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences for interprofessional learners across medical specialties (e.g. surgery, medicine, nursing, allied health)
  • Design and refine technical skills and procedural training curricula using best practices in simulation pedagogy. • Facilitate debriefings and reflective discussions to promote clinical reasoning, technical proficiency, and best teamwork outcomes
  • Collaborate with educators, surgical faculty, and program directors, to align simulation activities with competency-based curricula (CBD/CBME frameworks)
  • Support scenario creations, design, moulage, and fidelity optimization to enhance sta- development, team training and learner engagement
  • Contribute to study design, ethics applications, data collection, and analysis
  • Conduct and support research in simulation-based education, surgical training, and skills assessment
  • Publish and present findings at local, national, and international meetings
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for educational grant funding and partnerships
  • Provide mentorship and guidance for sta-, simulation facilitators, team leaders, learners, and educators
  • Collaborate with sta-, technology specialists, clinicians, and administrators to ensure high quality program delivery and innovation
  • Contribute to program evaluation, quality improvement, and accreditation initiatives
  • Participate in program evaluation, quality improvement, strategic planning, and accreditation initiatives

Job Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Degree in Education, Health Sciences, or related field with the inclusion of research training
  • 3 years’ experience in healthcare or surgical education, including simulation-based teaching and curriculum design
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting or supporting educational research, with a record of scholarly dissemination (e.g. peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, conference presentations)

Preferred

  • Certification in simulation education (e.g., Keystones Program with Simulation Canada, CHSE, CHSOS) considered an asset
  • Experience working within an academic health sciences environment 

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven expertise in curriculum design and in facilitating learner-centered education
  • Strong knowledge of simulation pedagogy and debriefing methodologies and frameworks
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, presentation, and project management skills
  • Ability to analyze data and contribute to scholarly writing
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and research.
