This resource was created to deliver a 2.5 hour small group interactive workshop geared for medical students on their obstetrical rotation. It enables students to understand the care activities in the obstetrics unit and how students may most effectively learn and provide care to patients in this clinical setting.
Learning Objectives:
After participating in this workshop, medical students will be able to:
1. perform a focused obstetrical history.
2. perform a cervical exam and describe findings accurately.
3. describe options for pain management in labour
4. describe methods of augmentation
5. practise vaginal delivery of singleton using an obstetrical mannequin.
6. describe management of shoulder dystocia and begin to demonstrate these skills

Evalution/Validation:
These sessions have been run since 2008 at the University of Ottawa, in groups of 10 students with 2-3 faculty. Mandatory evaluations are completed by students.
