Simulation Canada offers a wide array of professional development courses in simulation-based education. Our programs are designed for anyone in healthcare or human services interested in learning about the simulation field, in becoming a simulation educator, or in refining simulation skills. Interprofessional education (IPE) continues to be the primary driver for delivering all of our course offerings.
All our courses are founded on current educational theory and evidence, and reflect existing best practices in simulation. Our faculty are national and world leaders in simulation research and practice. They come from a variety of professional backgrounds, including medicine, nursing, EMS, respiratory therapy, theatre arts, and more.
Course Models
We strive to make our programming as accessible as possible, offering both on-site and online options.
On-site
We bring Canada’s simulation expertise to you, to meet the needs of your organization. Choose from any of our courses or combine two courses into a customized program. In particular, many schools have found it beneficial to host the Keystones Apex course, as this provides all the foundational skills in simulation-based education, quickly builds organizational capacity for high-quality, effective simulation, and qualifies participants for the Keystones Certificate in Simulation.
Choose between a private offering for your organization or an open course to which external participants may register. Course host sites save money by receiving a free registration in exchange for hosting the course plus volume discounts based on the number of registrants.

Online
Simulation Canada’s online learning programs are a new and exciting education initiative. We structure our online courses as facilitated, interactive programs to maintain the connections and community-building among peers and experts that are a hallmark of our in-person courses.
Four courses are currently available for online professional development:
- Keystones Apex – comprehensive fundamentals in simulation
- Briefing, Debriefing and Facilitating Simulations
- Scenario Writing
- Simulation Research Primer
Courses are offered in an e-learning environment that encourages flexible engagement with peers and course content. Each course is facilitated by Simulation Canada experts and experienced faculty members.
Like our in-person courses, online courses may be arranged as private offerings for single organizations or as open courses.

To organizations interested in virtually hosting an online course, we offer:

- Private hosting to focus on development of your simulation team and strategy
- The option to open the course to external registrants

Certificate Program
The Keystones Certificate in Healthcare Simulation is Canada’s nationally-recognized certificate for professional simulationists. It reflects completion of essential training to safely and effectively facilitate simulation-based learning and a commitment to excellence in simulation practice.
