Follow these steps to create a stomach for Nasogastric flushing or decompression for a manikin.

Here is how. Material required:

• 14 Fr. Nasogastric tube
• 1000cc empty IV bag
• Waterproof tape
• Lubricant
• Nasogastric strips

Method:

• Simman 2G (this can also be done on Simman 2G or Nursing Anne);
• Open chest and disconnect stomach tube from easophagus;
• Insert nasogastric tube via nose, pass it through the easophagus tube;
• Once you see it at the opening of the easophagus, grab the nasogastric tube and pass it through the stomach hole beside the stomach tube;
• Pass it under the belly plate just above the mechanics of the manikin;
• Pull the NG till it reaches the area under the bladder area;
• Insert the tip of the NG into a 1000cc empty IV bag via the puncture post;
• Make sure the NG tube holes are into the large 1000cc IV bag;
• Secure tube in place with waterproof tape;
• Fold IV bag and replace the bladder over top;
• Secure NG to nose with strip or tape Nursing Anne;
• Open chest and disconnect stomach from easophagus;
• Insert nasogastric tube via nose; pass it through the easophagus tube;
• Once you see it at the opening of the easophagus, grab the nasogastric, pass it through the small hole just to the right of the mannequin lung area (where carotid tube is situated);
• Pass it through the open cavity where you find the mechanics of the manikin;
• Pull the tube till you are in the bladder area;
• Then insert the tip of the NG into a 1000cc empty IV bag via the puncture post;
• Make sure the NG tube holes are into the large 1000cc IV bag;
• Secure tube in place with waterproof tape;
• Add bowel sound piece over IV bag;
• Secure NG to nose with strip or tape.
