The simulation has been designed to develop critiical thinking skills in nursing practice. The learner will encounter several complex patients in long-term care, recognize which siituations require the expertise of a RN, and when approaches such as advocating for the patient, delegation to another provider, and mentoring colleagues are needed.

Learning Objectives:

Critical thinking and leadership thinking through prioritizing assessments for multiple complex residents

Identify clinical findings requiring the registered nurse’s (RN’s) specific expertise.

Demonstrate accuracy of responses to both critically assessments findings and problematic situations when providing care to an acutely ill resident.

Demonstrate developing leadership capacity through advocating for the resident, mentoring other professionals, and role modeling evidence-informed practices to enhance safe and holistic care delivery.

Simulation Modality:

Virtual gaming simulation / virtual patient

Evalution/Validation:

This simulation’s scenario and script were formally peer-reviewed by two external institutions, then the final simulation was pilot tested by several students on a student testing committee then as part of the Virtu-WIL Student Program’s rollout.
