Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Simulation Technician is responsible for a wide variety of simulation education/training, administration, and staff development activities. The Simulation Technician provides operational, technical, troubleshooting and maintenance support for the simulation mannequins, computers, audio visual (A/V) technologies, and surrounding medical equipment in the simulation centre. Utilizing basic knowledge of current patient care simulation technologies and applications, they provide operations and orientations to educators utilizing our simulators and equipment at SimSinai.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures the SimSinai Centre is safe, clean and ready to deliver quality simulation learning experience to all users, following SimSinai policies and guidelines.
- Prepares our facility for simulation scenarios and activities, including setup of equipment, simulators, and supplies.
- Ensure cleaning and take down procedures are completed, after each simulation experience.
- Coordinates simulation activities by maintaining calendar of events, booking forms, and invoicing.
- Provides operational, technical support and orientation to our simulators, task trainers, and A/V equipment, security camera system, and debrief technologies in use at SimSinai.
- Programs simulators with attention to scenario details so simulators model physiological responses to the learner clinical and skill objectives as written in scenarios or given by educators.
- Performs diagnostics, trouble shooting and maintenance of simulators including identifying issues and highlighting solutions; installing and updating hardware and software; documenting services performed; and liaising with manufacturers’ service representatives. Escalates issues for technical repair or solutions appropriately.
- Maintains inventories, supplies and replacement parts for Centre’s operations.
- Identifies, summarizes, and collates data collected from learner and educator feedback following simulation experiences.
- Maintains accurate records and data on SimSinai activities for accreditation purposes.
- Assists with organizing and conducting tours of simulation centres as directed.
- Promotes funding opportunities in conjunction with the hospital foundation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirments
- Undergraduate degree or diploma required, preferably studies in a technical, IT, biomedical engineering, medical science, educational or healthcare related field
- Member of a regulated Health Professional (e.g. RN, RT) and Certified with CHSE or CHSOS preferred
- Experienced with Healthcare simulation technology including simulation-specific equipment and software, required
- Experience operating and troubleshooting A/V equipment, required
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and clinical experience highly desirable
- Experience with working with virtual meeting application like including Zoom, preferred
- Experience with networking and security camera system preferred
- Strong skills in computer applications including, MS Office, databases, preferred
- Experience in programming, video editing programs preferred
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills along with ability to function independently
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities
- Instructional/facilitation skills is an asset
